Taking serious note of the report published in mid-day (Here’s what can protect biodiversity at Aarey, August 23) on solutions to neutralise the negative impact of the widening of a particular stretch part of the proposed widening of the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) of the Aarey Milk Colony road would adversely affect the wildlife and biodiversity it sustains, the BMC has decided to construct about five animal overpasses. Moreover, the 1,000 tress that were supposed to face the axe would now be replanted within the colony.

The civic body is now in the process of making a detailed project report (DPR) for GMLR, which will be completed in the next two months. Additional Municipal Commissioner S V R Shrinivas said, “From Sakivihar to LBS Road, about 7-km-long stretch will be elevated. At Marol, we will build an elevated junction.

1,000 trees were supposed to be axed, but we have now decided to replant them within the colony. We will also build overpasses for the animals. Both sides of the GMLR will be fenced, so that animals are not harmed. Similar overpasses have been made in Holland.”
