The Bandra family court yesterday granted divorce to actor Farhan Akhtar and hairstylist Adhuna Bhabani. The couple, who married in 2000, had filed for it on mutual consent last October.
The custody of their two daughters Shakya and Akira will remain with Adhuna, while Farhan will have access whenever he wants.
The case was called out twice - once at 11.14 am and later at 12 pm - but the couple was not present in court. The two came in the second session with their lawyers - Farhan spotted in a blue t-shirt and jeans, and Adhuna in a white shirt and brown pants. They directly went before principal marriage counsellor VS Athavale. After that, they went before principal judge MM Thakare, where they were granted divorce.
When mid-day contacted Farhan's lawyer Fazaa Shroff-Garg, she said, "The divorce by mutual consent was allowed… by the family court in Bandra." Adhuna's lawyer, Taubon Irani, confirmed the same.
After filing for divorce on October 19, 2016, the couple had their first counselling session on November 15 last year. The two were then given the mandatory six-month waiting period to come back to court and inform if they still wanted to go ahead with it or withdraw it.
