Meanwhile, Sania Mirza crashed out of the women’s doubles event. Mirza and her partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands lost their third round match 6-4, 6-3 to American sisters Serena and Venus Williams.
After Mirza’s serve was broken in the opening game, the Indo-American tenth seeds fought hard and managed to break Venus’ serve in the sixth game for an equaliser.
But in the next seventh game Mattek-Sands lost her concentration and also lose her serve, that gifted the first set to the Williams sisters.
In the second set, Mirza and Mattek-Sands dug deep to break Venus again in the fourth game, but they lost the fifth game and could not find a way back after that as the Williams sisters marched on to victory and a place in the quarter-finals.u00a0
