Bosco's back to winning marc

Marc D’Souza’s brace at Azad Maidan yesterday helped Don Bosco (Matunga) register a 3-1 win over Dominic Savio (Andheri) and reclaim the U-14 Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) Div I title they missed last year.

Striker Marc opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a brilliant solo effort and then extended the lead in the 29th minute from a Gaston D’Silva assist. Marc though, had to leave the field in the 30th minute after suffering a groin injury. Dominic Savio skipper Calvin Barreto then reduced the deficit in the 33rd minute. However, Bosco’s weren’t done yet, and moments later, Darryl Saldanha scored to make it 3-1.

Having been knocked of the tournament in the semi-final stage last year, coach Mohan Pillay was overjoyed to see his wards fight harder this time.
“It was disappointing last year, but this year, credit must go to Marc for his brilliant performance throughout the tournament,” said Pillay.

Marc (13) was adjudged player of the tournament last year, but was hurt as his team could not win the title. “Last year, the individual honour didn’t mean much as we missed the title. This year though, it’s nice to have done well in a winning cause,” said Marc, a state-level player.
Meanwhile, in the U-16 Div IV final, Qureshi Yusuf’s strike saw Antonio D’Souza (Byculla) beat AVM (Juhu) 1-0. u00a0
