Boys outnumber girls in English medium schools
Statistics gathered by the education department this year reveals that male students outnumber their female counterparts in government-run English medium schools, while the number of girl students in Marathi medium civic schools is far greater than boys.
PMC’s education board gathered data of total admissions in all its 309 schools in the city. According to July 2012 statistics, the gap between boys and girls in English medium civic schools is 1,814. A total of 6,393 boys have been admitted in 50 English civic schools for Stds I to VII, against only 4,579 girls admitted in the same schools.
The scenario is exactly the opposite when compared to Marathi and Urdu medium schools. The total number of girls admitted in 225 Marathi medium civic schools is 32,654, while the number of boys is 31,528. In Urdu medium schools, there are only 2,631 boys against 4,020 girls enrolled in 34 Urdu civic schools in the city.
