The sun is shining down on Suraj Jagan. Even though he's been in the music circuit for a while, his career only seems to have taken off now. He was first noticed in Zehreelay Zehreelay in Rock On and has just recently won an award for Give Me Some Sunshine from 3 Idiots. Suraj talks to CS about the chartbuster track and his accidental Bollywood break:
On track
The song has really connected with the youth. In fact it was on youtube even before the film released. Though Zubi Dubi and All is Well were the two tracks that were officially promoted from the film, Give Me Some Sunshine stood up on its own and I'm glad that the audience has liked it.
Rocking on
My cameo in Rock On happened by chance. I'd gone to sing Zahreele Zahreele when I noticed these guys from the crew clicking my pictures. Then they asked me if I'd like to play a role in the film. I thought that I would only have to perform the song, but it was only at the audition that I realised that I had a few lines too.
Band bajao
Give me Some Sunshine and Zehreeleu00a0 Zehreele are very different tracks belonging to two extreme genres. But that's what I like - I enjoy the soft soulful music as well as the hard stuff. I try to experiment with my band, Dream Out Loud. Though we're a rock band, we're famous for our soft melodic numbers too. One of our biggest hits, It's Raining Now is a soulful number. These days I'm busy with my second solo album.u00a0
Note by note
I believe in taking life one day at a time. I've never gone out of my way to make things happen and I don't plan to do that in the future either. That's the way I like to operate. I don't have control over anything, except maybe my band. So I just want to go with the flow.
