Bus cleaner in police remand for murdering teen, driver on the run
Cops say all three were druggies and gamblers; the driver needed money, so he and his aide killed the victim to get their hands on Rs 8,000
He changed his mobile handset, SIM card, even his job. But all this diligence failed to keep Riaz-Ulla-Shaikh safe from the clutches of the law. Accused of murdering a 19-year-old man, Riaz was arrested on Monday by Ghatkopar cops and remanded in police custody till December 25 by a city court the next day. His alleged partner in crime Anis Shaikh remains absconding.
Anis — a bus driver — and Riaz — a cleaner — have been accused of murdering Kishor Mohite for Rs 8,000 on November 14. According to police officials, the deceased and the accused were drug addicts and compulsive gamblers. Anis had lost all his money, but he wished to keep his promise to his family members of taking them to their native place. So, he killed Kishor to get his hands on some cash. Kishor’s body was found behind Shreyas cinema in Ghatkopar at 8.45 am on November 14, but it remained unidentified for several days. Meanwhile, his relatives lodged a missing complaint at Parksite police station, Vikhroli on November 18.
Speaking to MiD DAY, police inspector Rajkumar Vishnu Kothmire said, “Kishor’s parents identified the body at JJ hospital.”
The deceased was working as a liftman at Hiranandani Galleria and had left home around 9 am on November 13. Some of his friends told the police that Kishor was with them till 6 pm that day.
“A few witnesses recounted having seen Kishor with Anis and Riaz around 10 pm on November 13. The accused went into hiding upon finding out about the police investigation,” said Kothmire.
In order to arrest the absconding driver, a police team comprising sub-inspector Pawar, and constables Darekar, Patil and Thorat was sent to Kolkata. “But before our squad could reach there Anis fled from his residence along with his family,” said Kothmire.
When asked about Riaz’s arrest, the inspector said, “We requested one of his friends to telephone Riaz, asking him to pick him up from Dadar railway station. We set a trap at the station and apprehended the accused.”
Riaz and Anis have been booked under sections 302 (punishment for murder), 397 (robbery or dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intension) of Indian Penal Code.
