The police booked a man yesterday for cheating a city businessman of Rs 1.5 lakh after promising to get his son a seat in a reputable medical college at Nerul in Navi Mumbai.

Vinod Shah (56), a resident of Pune-Satara road, filed a complaint against Nityanand Pandey (35) from Mumbai in this regard.

Yeshwant Kadam of the Swargate police station said Pandey met Shah in Mumbai through a common acquaintance and took the money.

“As the complainant’s son never got admission and Pandey was evasive when asked to return the money, Shah lodged a complaint,” he said.

Pandey was booked under Section 420 of the IPC and the police said he would be arrested soon.
