New Delhi: Ahead of the SAARC summit next week to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the cabinet Thursday approved signing of the framework agreement for setting up a regional power grid.

The SAARC Framework Agreement for Energy Cooperation among the SAARC Member States to be signed at 18th SAARC Summit scheduled to be held at Kathmandu Nov 26-27 will enable greater cooperation in the power sector among SAARC countries, the power ministry said in a release here.


"The Agreement is expected to improve the power availability in the entire SAARC region. It would facilitate integrated operation of the regional power grid", the statement added.
