From travelling yogis who strike a pose at exotic locales to couples who share photos as they hold hands at destinations across the world, the travel/photo blogging space has evolved in the last few years. The one travelling this time is a coffee mug.

Twenty-five-year-old Mumbai-based Rasesh Raja, who has been blogging for over a year now, loves coffee. A few years ago, when his friend travelled to Mumbai from Paris, he brought him a coffee mug, bringing about a dramatic shift in Raja’s life and blog. “My life revolves around coffee. I tasted my first cup when I was 14 years old and till date, every time I sip it, it feels like my first. A few months after my friend gifted me the coffee mug, I thought that it had travelled all the way from Paris to Mumbai but that was its first journey. Maybe it should travel some more,” shares Raja.

He started by posting photos of the mug travelling to different locations in South Mumbai and documenting its experiences. The second series featured movie halls that the cup visited. “We went to Sterling, Regal, Metro and Eros.
The blog talks of the essence of the place like soaking in the emotion of a busy lane or the serenity of the Asiatic library. We did a series on Goa too. Today, people I don’t know follow the blog too, and ask where the cup is going to next,” he says.

Raja has a full-time job, as a social media marketing person and so, can’t travel as often. He manages to do a new series with the cup every month, which feature a mix of videos and stills.

However, he has bigger plans for his coffee mug. “My friend in Paris has bought the same cup. He takes pictures there and sends them to me,” he says, adding, “Many of my friends, who are photographers and bloggers, have requested for the cup when they are travelling. Earlier I had only one, so I politely refused to give it to them. I thought of it as my baby. Now my friend is sending me another one, which I will give to friends who are travelling. Every month, there will be people apart from myself who will travel with the cup too. Recently, a friend asked to take the cup to Leh.”

You can also watch out for new destinations that the mug will make its way to. “The next series of the cup will be to religious places in India,” he concludes, not before revealing that he will be travelling to Paris soon. This time, he will take a Mumbai cup there with him and document its journey. The Instagram account has 3,795 followers.
