CBI arrests Income Tax officials for demanding bribe

The Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI), Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) has arrested Satyanarayan Vanam, Office Superintendent of Income Tax (I-T) and Mehboob Shaikh, Tax Consultant for demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a complainant for clearing his Income Tax returns without any scrutiny.


The accused have been booked under sections 120-B of IPC and sections 7, 8 of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.

According to CBI officials, the demand was verified wherein the accused demanded and agreed to accept part payment of the bribe amount of Rs 20,000.


Thereafter, the CBI laid a trap and the accused persons were caught red handed from the Pratyaksha Kar Bhavan at Bandra Kurla Complex.


The accused will be produced in the designated court tomorrow.
