The doctor filed a complaint with the ticket checker, following which the accused was eventually handed over to officials of the Mumbai Central railway police station. Officials said that 21-year-old Chandraprakash Malkhan Singh, who had occupied the berth adjacent to the doctor’s, touched her inappropriately around 2.15 am while she was asleep. The victim had boarded the train from Ahmedabad where she had gone to visit her in-laws for Ganeshotsav.
“The lady immediately woke up and rushed out to look for the ticketing staff. She then lodged a complaint with the TC,” an official said. After she registered her complaint with the TC, she was advised to call on the helpline. Soon after her call, police officials at Borivli were informed about the incident.
“Our officials boarded the train in Borivli and arrested the accused in Dadar. He was finally brought to the Mumbai Central railway police station around 6.30 am, following which the victim’s statement was recorded,” an official said. DCP (GRP) Bansidhar Shirsat said that both Singh and the case had been handed over to the Surat police, as the offence was committed in their jurisdiction (Valsad).
