Champion jockey A Sandesh, who has already tightened his grip over the season's jockey championship, celebrated his success by scoring the 600th win of his career, booting home Mekong Delta to win the Kailashpat Singhania Trophy, the feature event of Saturday's nine-race card. Mekong Delta was trained by M K Jadhav.
Sandesh had scored 62 wins this season from 235 mounts so far, and before the first race of the day his career tally stood at 598, only two short of the 600 mark. As he had a runner in each of the nine races on the card, there was a strongly likelihood he would reach the coveted figure during the day. However, the ace jockey, after quickly moving onto 599 with a rather easy victory astride Merchantofvenice, had to struggle for his 600th victory. It finally came in when Mekong Delta, lying at the rear of the field, came up with gigantic strides in the final furlong to post an impressive victory in his hands.
