After an all-India hunt for the nation’s top young masterminds was conducted by Seven Seas Academy, the winners have emerged. Two Chandigarh-based students — Yuvraj Verma and Ravi Yadav — won the contest, which saw the participation of about 60,000 students. The winners have been awarded a fully paid trip to NASA along with their parents.

Among the nationwide top 20 students, there were two from Podar International School, Khar West, as well — Advay Welling, from Std VI, and Khwaaish Shah from Std V. Shah, whose team later lost in the finals, said, “It was my lifelong dream to go to NASA; it’s that one thing that keeps me motivated to work hard.”

The competition was carried out all across the country, covering 200 schools in 10 cities. In Mumbai, among the 35 participating schools were Don Bosco High School (Matunga), St Mary’s School (Mazagaon), and Sacred Heart Boys High School (Santacruz). The main purpose of the competition, said the organisers, was to create awareness about brain development amongst kids. “Events like these challenge children’s thinking and go beyond textbooks. After all, who does not dream of going to NASA someday?” said Vandana Lulla, principal of Podar International School.

Actress Raveena Tandon who was present at the event, to meet the children, spoke about the health and nutrition of the students across the country.
