PSEB Chandigarh was founded in 1969 under a legislative act of the Government of Punjab to administer the curriculum taught in public schools in the Punjab state and conduct standardized examinations in addition to conducting administration of scholarships, and publishing of textbooks. The headquarters of the Board are located in SAS Nagar (Mohali), near Chandigarh. The main objective of board is to regulate & supervise for the improvement of Education in Punjab.
PSEB conducts Class 10th and Class 12th exam every year in the month of March. This year also board has conducted class 12th and Matric exam in March 2014. The total number of students that appeared in Matric examination 2014 is 375358 out of which 341791 appeared through regular board and 33567 appeared through open board.
The total number of candidates who passed matric examination is 271196 out of which 260886 students passed through regular board and 10310 passed through open board. In terms of percentage the total pass percentage is 72.25, the pass percentage through regular board is 76.33 and pass percentage through open board is 30.71.
This year the girls grabbed the top three positions. However, there are some boys who has achieved the 2nd and 3rd position and given equal competition to girls in class 10th examination. The total number of girls that appeared in the class 10th examination is 161246 and the total number of boys that appeared in class 10th examination is 214112. The pass percentage of girls is 79.60 percent i.e. 128351 and the pas percentage of boys is 66.72 percent i.e. 142845.
The board has decided to bestow the toppers of this year with cash awards of Rs. 1 lakh, Rs. 75,000 and Rs. 50,000 for first, second and third positions, respectively.
The students who topped the examination are: Riya Garg of RS Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana stood at 1st position with 97.69% marks. Riya secured 635 out of 650 marks.
The second position is shared by two students i.e. Mahima Nagpal and Ankush Mahajan of Bal Vidya Mandir High School, Nangal Kotli Mandi, Gurdaspur stood at second position with 97.23% marks. Both of them scored 632 out of 650 marks.
The third position is achieved by four students i.e. Jannatpreet Kaur of RS Model Senior Secondary School, Gaganjot Kaur of SAV Jain Day Boarding Senior Secondary School, Hoshiarpur; Muskan Garg of Surajkund Sarvhitkari Vidya Mandir, Sangrur; and Lokesh Mahajan of Vivekanand High School, Pathankot stood at third position with 96.92% by scoring 630 out of 650 marks.
