New Delhi: India has revoked the passport of arrested underworld don Chhota Rajan as an investigation found that the document was procured on a fake identity by him from the Indian mission in Australia.

"His passport has been revoked as it was obtained using fake identity," External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said, adding government has instituted an inquiry into the matter.

Asked how the High Commission in Australia issued the passport, he said, "It is not the first case that when a fake document was used to get a passport nor it will be the last.

But whenever it comes to our notice, we take action." Rajan, who had spent years abroad in hiding, was arrested in Bali while travelling on an Indian passport issued in the name of one Mohan Kumar.

An Indian police team is now in Bali to bring back the arrested underworld don. He was nabbed at Bali airport on his arrival from Australia on October 25.

Rajan was a close aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim at one point but they split before the 1993 Mumbai blasts.

Mumbai Police had registered 75 cases against Rajan, including 20 of murder, four cases under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act, one under Prevention of Terrorism Act and over 20 cases under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act. Delhi Police has registered six cases against him.
