Switching to the digital mode, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday inaugurated the web portal of the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA), making it much easier for citizens to track complaints and view the status of various projects. Further, officials mentioned that the Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping of slum clusters was complete and it has revealed that there are 2,470 slums spread over 9,800 acres of city space.

The data further reveals that there are a total of 281 slums in K east ward (Andheri and Jogeshwari areas and 221 in P north ward (Malad area). The A ward (Colaba and Cuffe Parade areas) has the lowest number of slum clusters.

Interestingly, even though SRA has undertaken a specific project for Dharavi, it only has 69 slum clusters. Sources said that when the survey was first carried out in 2015, citizens were upset as Gaothans were included in the slum category. However, an SRA official said that this time they were not taken into consideration for the GIS mapping.

With the launch of the website, SRA aims at fast-tracking the proposals and approving projects online. The web portal will also make it much easier for citizens to track complaints and know about the various rehabilitation schemes undertaken by SRA.

Soon after the launch, the CM tweeted: "Launched GIS web portal of Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA). Because of this new portal, now slum dwellers can file online complaints, can access GRs, various tenders and get full information of SRA works and schemes."

Last Wednesday, the chief executive officer of SRA also tweeted about the completion of the survey: "Sheer hard work yields results. SRA's full GIS mapping of slums complete. Big help to slum dwellers and also architects."
