Madrid: James Rodriguez says Real Madrid must beat Basel in their opening Champions League match in order to recover from their poor start to the season.

The European champions have won just one of their opening five competitive matches of the campaign, most recently losing 1-2 to local rivals Atletico Madrid.

Rodriguez insists he is not worried about his side's poor start to the season, but stresses they must beat the Swiss club in Madrid today.
"You have to play hard and start winning in the Champions League," he told reporters. "We have a great opportunity to win and set everything right. Things develop day by day and you can't look back. We have to win tomorrow."
Madrid will be firm favourites to start their Champions League defence with a win, but coach Carlo Ancelotti is treating Basle with respect.
He said of their Group B rivals: "Basle are a very good team who play dynamic and good football. They have a very precise style and it will not be an easy game. We need to do well to win."
