Does the combination of Pilates and Altitude Training really keep that flab at bay? Active! gives this unique combination a shot to find out

Within moments of entry it became abundantly apparent that The Pilates and Altitude Training studio is a professional one. The instructors never hold a class with more than four people at a time to ensure that everyone does their exercises correctly and given the size of the studio, which has just enough equipment to hold this number, it's not an empty promise of personalised attention.

equipment while maintaining correct breathing patterns. Pic/ Nimesh Dave

The trainer assigned to me, Swapnil Naik, started me off on Pilates and as I stretched and held my body with the help of adjustable equipments, he made sure each position was exactly right and that I was maintaining correct breathing patterns.

Naik taught me a quick method to remember when to inhale and exhale by explaining that Exhale=Exertion in all the different exercises. I was surprised to find that post 45 minutes of a gruelling pilates workout, my muscles did not feel fatigued (nor did I experience any soreness the next day). This is because the correct breathing was supplying the perfect amount of oxygen to my muscles and the stretches were correctly executed.

After a short break I proceeded to the cosy altitude studio, complete with picturesque wall-paper detailing of mountains. I was told by trainer John Gloster (expert in altitude training and physiotherapist to the Rajasthan Royals cricket team) that the amount of oxygen (in all high-altitude areas) in the air was only 14% as compared to the 21% we are used to in our air. The difference can be felt immediately and there is 200% more calorie burning here than in a normal environment. This makes it perfect for those suffering from injuries, wanting to lose weight faster (safely) and those wanting to improve the efficiency of their cardio-vascular system.

All I did was walk on a treadmill for 15 minutes at a reasonable pace and found I had burned far more calories than if I had done the exact same thing at a higher speed and for a longer time!

I felt a slight head rush upon coming out into the open air once again but overall I felt entirely energised by this truly unique combinationu00a0 workout. Considering the exercises are low in impact, it is perfect for absolutely anyone and and you can be sure of great results with this team backing you. After all, if you can't go to the mountains, you might as well bring them
to you!
