Advocate Vinayak Abhyankar, member of BJP’s legal cell, has filed a criminal complaint against District Collector Saurabh Rao, who during a press conference at his office on Tuesday, said  that his name is enrolled in voters lists in Nagpur as well as Pune, which is illegal. The court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) SB Nimse has admitted the complaint, and the hearing is scheduled for April 19.

Saurabh Rao had said that his name was enrolled in voter lists in Nagpur as well as Pune

When Rao was asked about the alleged registration of bogus voters from Sangli in voter lists of Pune constituency, he claimed that his own name is still there in Nagpur’s voter list and that he has registered his name in Pune as well.
Abhyankar filed this complaint under IPC section 219 (public servant in judicial proceeding corruptly making report contrary to law) and section 31 (making false declarations) of the Representation of People’s Act, 1950 through Advocate Girish Shinde, Sushil Pise and Vijay Aadhav.

In his complaint, Abhyankar claims, “Instead of taking action against government employees and political party workers involved in registration of bogus voters, Saurabh Rao told media persons that his name also appears in two different voter lists. Rao being the Returning Officer for Pune district has complete knowledge of election related laws. While registering his name at a second place, Rao should have informed the officials and filed an affidavit regarding exclusion of his name from Nagpur’s voter list.”
