Siddhartha Institute of Aeronautical Engineering changes tone after report on its lack of recognition

Students of a city educational institute who discovered after six months that they were pursuing a 'training programme' instead of the promised aeronautical engineering course can heave a sigh of relief. After a report in MiD DAY, the management has agreed to return the Rs 1 lakh fees it collected from over 200 students.

"We are hopeful of pursuing our studies elsewhere, thank you," said Sathish B (name changed on request).

"The management that refused to even to talk to us has finally returned the fees we had paid."u00a0

Meritorious students from the state and Tamil Nadu, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh had been threatened with a 'bad conduct' certificate if they protested against the college, but now the college has backed down.
The refunds began on Saturday.u00a0

"They have returned the money, besides originals of our testimonials, without which pursuing our education would have been impossible," added Sathish.u00a0u00a0

The 20 students who got their money back had been given admission for aeronautical and mechanical engineering. The rest have been assured of getting their money and testimonials back in a week.u00a0

Many more affected?

Many students after reading the MiD DAY report have made phone calls and sent e-mails claiming that the number of students cheated by the institute is not merely 200, but runs into four figures.u00a0

"I'm also a student in this college, but not 200 students 1000 of students or faced this problem in this college.

Please tell them to return back at least 50% money and original marks sheets. Please solve this problem as soon as possible," said a student's mail response to the MiD DAY report.u00a0

Minister mum

Students allege that the institute's management was trying to hush up the case by using influence with the higher education minister.

The minister for higher education did not respond to MiD DAY's calls.

"With things resolved I will move back to my place in Andhra Pradesh and join a good college and pursue
my dream of becoming an engineer," said Mahendar R (name changed), another student.
