Come, give Wikipedia a hand

Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia, is hosting its monthly meeting today, and everyone is invited. If you are a contributor, user, or just plain curious, drop in for a casual chat about a topic that's interests you.

Organised at different venues around Mumbai every month, the meets focus on figuring what's top of mind for city locals, and putting it on a Wiki page.

Kundan Amitabh is reviewer with Wikipedia

We've all escaped the humiliation of ignorance at the rescue of a Wikipedia page, but who fills the ocean of information? "The people are the source," says Kundan Amitabh, reviewer for Wikipedia.

His job is to check the authenticity of information put out by contributors before it reaches the surfer.

"Wikipedia is available in 12 Indian languages and we're now working on Wikimedia Incubator," says the Kharghar resident.

Incubator is a Wiki project that seeks to test out new language versions of Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikinews, Wikiquote and Wiktionary, which once proven worthy, will be released internationally.

The meetings also tell you how to contribute to a Wiki article and use the Wiki-inspired interface to add content in regional languages.

Head over to meet fellow Wiki users and it might just lead you to the next big thing, who knows! We bet Wiki does.
