Remaining 50 reportedly controversial names will be announced today

After much deliberations Congress announced the list of 119 candidates for BMC polls last night, leaving 50 names to be announced today. According to party sources, the remaining names were crucial due to a conflict among party leaders.

Most of the names have been suggested by party ministers, MPs and MLAs. As per consensus, all of them were directly involved in selecting the candidates to take on the Shiv Sena-BJP-RPI alliance and the MNS.

While the Congress is contesting 169 seats, its alliance partner NCP has been offered 58 seats. NCP announced its first list with 51 names on Sunday.

The Congress list contains most of the veterans in the BMC who have completed more than 2 or 3 terms. The party has accommodated Samadhan Sarvankar, son of Sada Sarvankar who has defected from MNS to join Congress. Also, Sandesh Kondwilkar, who joined the party a few years back after quitting the BJP, has been nominated from ward no 5. Pravin Chheda, who recently quit BJP to join Congress has been nominated from ward no 124.

The party has retained stalwarts such as Vinod Shekharu00a0-- son of MLA Anni Shekhar, Samir Desaiu00a0-- nephew of MP Gurudas Kamat, Kisan Jadhavu00a0-- a staunch supporter of MP Murli Deora, Suresh Koparkar and a few others.
