The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Mumbai, on Monday arrested a constable red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Mumbai, on Monday arrested police constable Vinod Ahire (47) red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000. Ahire allegedly took the amount from a gymnasium owner in exchange for conducting an investigation involving the latter faster.
According to the police, Ahire is attached with MHB police station in Borivali. The complainant runs a gymnasium at Dahisar. An NGO has disconnected the illegal water connection of Gymnasium. The complainant has filed a petition in court in which court has directed MHB police to investigate the matter in January 2012.

Ahire didn't pursue the case with vigour and after a while reportedly demanded Rs 50,000 as bribe to investigate the matter properly. After negotiation, he settled on Rs 40,000. He also demanded Rs 25,000 before starting his investigation and the remaining amount afterwards.
The complainant approached ACB officials and registered an FIR against Ahire. On Monday, ACB arrested Ahire near the Gymnasium at Kanderpada in Dahisar.
