The action was initiated after Sohail Yasin Shaikh (28), a resident of Bhavani Peth, approached the ACB office and lodged a complaint against Gogawale.u00a0

The ACB officials confirmed that Gogawale was in-charge of the passport verification desk at the Samarth police station. Shaikh’s parents wanted to go on a Haj and he had applied for their passports. Shaikh had visited the police station on several occasions and had requested Gogawale to complete the verification process at the earliest.

“Whenever Shaikh visited the police station, Gogawale used to avoid him and give vague answers. But last week he demanded Rs 3,000 to complete the verification process,” Police Inspector Rajendra Galande said.

Shaikh then approached the ACB office and registered a complaint against Gogawale. The team of ACB officials led by Galande laid a trap and arrested Gogawale while taking Rs 2,000 from Shaikh.u00a0
