Cop nabs chain snatcher in high-speed bike chase

In yet another incident of chain snatching on Sunday, a couple of motorcycle-borne culprits managed to snatch a chain off a woman near Ruia College at Matunga.

However, the thieves had no idea that their victim was a constable's fianc ufffd, and that her better half would be coming after them with vengeance. The constable intercepted the chain snatchers near Hindmata, and one of the culprits is now behind bars at Matunga police station.

Brave: Constable Sachin Ketee, who chased one of the two chain snachers at Hindmata

Snatch and run
Sachin Ketee, a constable attached with the Chunabhatti police station, was on his way to Naigaon to drop his fianc ufffd Megha home. "When we reached L Nappo Road near Ruia College, two people on a motorcycle whizzed past us. While they were passing us, Megha felt a sudden jerk around her neck and she realised that the duo had snatched her chain. They escaped without being noticed, because the road we had taken was isolated," said Ketee.

The chase
Asking Megha to wait at the spot, Ketee then set off on a high-speed chase to nab the chain snatchers.
At Hindmata, when Ketee's bike was inches away from the chain snatchers', he kicked their vehicle. The impact of the kick was such that the thieves lost control of the bike and were thrown off their vehicle.

"With the help of the public, I managed to nab one of them along with the bike, while the other snatcher managed to flee," said Ketee.

During interrogation at Matunga police station, the arrested chain snatcher was identified as Salman Apsar Ali Khan, a resident of Dharavi.

"We are now searching for his accomplice, who is on the run. The duo appear to be history-sheeters and have been on the run for quite some time now," said a police officer from Matunga police station.

The reward
Applauding Ketee's efforts and bravery, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone IV, Keshav Patil, has recommended his name to Commissioner of Police, Arup Patnaik, for a reward.
