The Bundgarden police have booked three people who they suspect robbed an Irish national working with IBM after beating him black and blue. The incident took place in the wee hours of Saturday.

The police said they wear earlier not clear about the motive behind the attack as they were unable to record the statement of the victim, Kevin Fittol Daniel, an IBM employee from Ireland who was staying at the Le Meridien hotel. The incident came to light when locals in Koregaon Park alerted the police after finding a foreigner lying unconscious near the burning ghats.

Victim stable
The police said Daniel was admitted to a private hospital on the day of the attack and was now stable. Daniel is believed to have told the police that three people had attacked him in the wee hours of Saturday and that they had snatched his cell phone and Rs 3,000 from him.

"On Friday night, Daniel had gone out with a friend. After the two returned to the hotel, Daniel reportedly stepped out again and was robbed by three persons he did not know near the burning ghats in Koregaon Park," said Assistant Police Inspector S L Dubal.

"We suspect he was under influence of alcohol when this incident took place and that is the reason why he could not give us a description of the people who attacked him on Saturday."
