Son of temple worker arrested for killing his father and dumping his body inside the temple's drainage system

Cops crack Dahisar murder mystery

A day after stunned locals stumbled upon the dead body of a 43-year-old man behind a temple in Dahisar, cops claimed to have cracked the case by arresting the dead man’s son.

Suresh Gattu, 21, was arrested by the city’s Crime Branch Unit 12 police for murdering his father Linganna Gattu. In his confession, the son told cops that he was frustrated with his father who would regularly fight, abuse and assault his mother. The accused murdered his father and dumped his body inside the drainage system on the fourth floor of the Vitthal Rakhu Mai Mandir in Dahisar where they both worked. He covered the body with tiles and applied fresh plaster over the tiles, to conceal the body.

A police officer said, “During interrogation the accused confessed to the crime. He has been charged under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (tampering with evidence). He has now been handed over to the Dahisar police for further investigations.”

The body was discovered on Friday evening after foul smell from the fourth floor drainage system alerted locals. The temple authority called a plumber to clean the drainage system. When the plumber opened the tiles he was shocked to find a partially decomposed body in it. The police was informed and investigations started.

Over the last 24 hours, crime branch officers rounded up several people working in the temple. During investigations the police suspected Linganna’s son Suresh in the matter. On being cross examined, he confessed to killing his father.
