Cops must have exceptionally relished the moment they managed to put the handcuffs back on this man. Bangur Nagar police have managed to nab a man who had accomplished the rare feat of escaping from police custody, two months back.

James Naidu (25) escaped on October 15, when two constables were accompanying him to the toilet in the police station, where he had been kept in custody.

On his way, he reportedly punched both the constables, and made a dash for freedom, while his hands were still cuffed. After trying to trace him for two months, cops finally laid hands on him in Chennai, on Tuesday.

Naidu had been arrested on charges of cheating many locals of the Goregaon (West) area. He extracted money from his victims on the false pretext of giving them jobs in the government sector.

He would then sever all ties with his victims, not responding to their phone calls.

Several cases were registered against Naidu with the Bangur Nagar police on October 10 earlier this year. On the same day, cops nabbed him, producing him at court the following day. He was then remanded in police custody.

The great escape
On the night of October 15, Naidu requested to be taken to the toilet. On his way to the restroom, he assaulted the two constables accompanying him, and fled. Both constables were suspended for their negligence.

Bangur Nagar police then launched a manhunt for Naidu, keeping a close watch on his residence in Bhagat Singh Nagar, Goregaon, where his parents live.

"We came to know that he was making phone calls to his parents from his native place in Chennai. We formed a special team comprising officers and constables, and dispatched them to Chennai," said a police officer of the station. The team nabbed him on Tuesday.u00a0

Naidu was brought back to Mumbai on Tuesday night, and produced at court yesterday. The court has remanded him in police custody till December 26. Bangur Nagar cops are now investigating cases registered against him previously.
