Cops rescue 2 minors, model from sex trade
While conducting a raid in a plush society in Wadgaon Sheri yesterday, officials of the Social Security Cell busted a prostitution racket where minor girls were being forced into the flesh trade.
The cops rescued three girls, including two minors, and arrested three male pimps from the flat. “We had received a tip-off that a prostitution racket is operational in Gloriosa Society,” said API Ashwini Jagtap of Social Security Cell. She added that one of the minor girls, a Bangladeshi, was brought here by a lady who had promised to show her some tourist attractions in India. The other minor is from West Bengal and was brought to the city by the woman, who promised her a job.
According to the police, the 26-year-old woman who was rescued hails from Haryana, and has worked in an episode of a television serial called CID. Those arrested have been identified as Tushar Patil (21), Haridas Shere (26), and Prakash Waghmare (27). According to police, Tushar once worked with Kalyani Deshpande, the kingpin of flesh trade in the city, who is wanted in a PITA case registered with the Deccan-Gymkhana police station.
While all the rescued girls have been sent to the Rescue Home Foundation and police are trying to contact their families, those arrested have been booked under relevant Sections of PITA and IPC. They will be produced before the court today.
