The Wadala GRP are searching through complaints registered for missing babies, to trace the parents of the infant boy who was found in an abandoned bag by a hawker in a local train
Police are searching high and low for the parents of the baby boy who was packed up in a bag and left near the footboard of a Harbour line train. MiD DAY had reported yesterday on how hawker Kishor Kale (20) had found a bag in the ladies’ compartment of a CST-Belapur train and had picked it up ('Hawker steals bag from train, baby pops out', January 28).
Many NGOs have come forward to help the child, but police have stalled them till investigations are completed

When he got off at Kurla, he opened the bag and a child’s hand reached out to him. Shocked and scared, Kale tried to drop the bag and escape, but was caught by an alert ticket collector. He was later handed over to the Wadala Government Railway Police (GRP) for investigations.

The Wadala GRP have intensified their search operation to find the parents of the 15-day-old boy. Yesterday, officials forwarded applications to each railway station between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) to Kurla, asking them to provide CCTV footage of the times when the local train carrying the baby and the hawker halted at their respective stations.
“We released Kale today. We are also going through all registered complaints of missing babies in police stations of Mumbai and are taking help from informers to find the boy’s parents,” informed a police officer from Wadala GRP.
The boy was determined to be healthy by Bhabha Hospital on Monday and was handed over to Asha Sadan in Dongri. The children’s home then sent the boy to JJ Hospital for a medical check-up yesterday, and the results showed the infant was healthy and well.
