The Dahisar police are on the lookout for four unidentified persons who escaped in a car after beating up two police constables on night patrolling duty early last Sunday morning. The cops were severely injured and were unable to note down the car number. They were later taken to the hospital and are stable now.

Around 5 am on December 11, police constable Rajesh Aikavde (37), a resident of Nalasopara and head constable Dilip Jadhav (40), a resident of the police quarters in Jogeshwari, were on night patrolling duty. They were returning from the Rawalpada beat chowky on a police bike. At Mininagar, S N Dubey Road, the cops saw two people quarreling next to a silver Maruti Esteem. The cops got off the bike to break up the fight. As they neared the vehicle, Jadhav flicked on his torch and saw that there were two more men inside the car.

But the four men suddenly stopped bickering and ganged up to argue with and abuse the cops. They picked up bamboo sticks and rods and started hitting the constables. Leaving the two injured, all four fled in the car.

Later, the constables called up the Dahisar police who took them to the hospital. Jadhav fractured a hand, which incidentally had been operated upon a few years ago. He was admitted to Hinduja hospital and where he underwent a surgery last Monday, while Aikavde received stitches on his head.u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0

Senior Inspector Ansar Pirjade of the Dahisar police said, "We have registered a case against the unknown persons under Section 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from discharge of duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty) and 34 (common intention). We would arrest all the accused in the case soon."
