Left with no option after being cornered on an under construction high-rise during a failed robbery attempt at a printing press in Maharishi Nagar, a thief jumped off the 11th floor and died.
The owner of the printing press near Zambare Palace at Mukund Nagar, Santosh Suresh Khatpe (28), spotted the unidentified thief on his property at around 7 am and raised the alarm, after which a chase began as the man said to be between 28 or 30 years began to run.u00a0
Soon police patrolling the area and a crowd joined the chase and marshals began pursuing the frightened thief leading him to enter the under construction building.
M P Dhere, inspector (Crime) of the Swargate police station said, “As we got information about incident of a robbery attempt, we sent a patrolling team to the spot. At one point, the thief was standing near the chowk at Maharshi Nagar.”
He added that when the marshals asked him to surrender, he became frightened and tried to run. The marshals started chasing him, but after a certain distance he dodged his pursuers and entered the under construction building.
“By the time the team realised, he had reached the 11th floor of a nearby under construction building and jumped off. He fell on the rubble and died on the
spot. We are yet to identify him and the process is on. u00a0He seems to be between 25 and 28 years old,” said Dhere.u00a0
