Thane: A request by activist Anjali Damania to make her submission in connection with the irrigation scam before Special Judge V V Bambarde trying anti-corruption cases at the Thane district court was turned down here today.

The court room witnessed a never before drama after Damania prompted to the prosecution and the counsel of accused contractor Nisar Khatri and a former officer of Konkan Irrigation Development Corporation (KIDC) Rajesh Rithe.

They were both produced in court before Special Judge V V Bambarde in connection with the Balganga Dam contract case.

After hearing their counsel, both of them were remanded to a week's police custody.

The defence counsel of the accused argued that there was no need for them to be remanded to police custody since they were grilled for several months.

Rithe's counsel Subhash Jha took potshots at Damani and said that he never witnessed any political aspirant in the court talking wo the public prosecutor and projecting herself as a "supercop".

There was a heated argument and Damania demanded that the court should allow her to speak but the defence counsel objected to her intervention in the case, after which the judge turned down her request.
