The police believe that Sanjay had been fighting with and demanding dowry from his wife ever since he got married two years ago. Sanjay reportedly wasn't willing to get married to Supriya, and did not want a child from her either. He is also allegedly in an extra-marital relationship with a colleague. The wife alleges he is so uncaring, he has not named his son although he is nine months old.

According to the FIR registered by Supriya against Sanjay on May 7, Sanjay was aided by his father Kacharu Borade and brother Vijay Borade. The police arrested arrested Sanjay under section 498 (A), 323, 504, 506 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), but Kacharu and Vijay are yet to be arrested. Eventually Sanjay managed to get bail.

According to Supriya, she learned of Sanjay's affair with his colleague when she checked the text messages on his mobile phone. In fact, Sanjay invited the said colleague to his wedding reception on June 1, 2009. When Supriya delivered her son on August 7, 2010 in a hospital, Sanjay visited them only the next day, and with the same colleague. "When I asked him about his extra-marital relationship, Sanjay replied that this was his lifestyle. He said, 'I can do what I want'," said Supriya.

According to Supriya, she has been physically assaulted by Sanjay frequently and has even been subjected to mental trauma. When Sanjay's mother passed away on July 18, 2009 due to cancer, she was blamed for the death, with Sanjay calling her "inauspicious" for the family. Despite many attempts, Sanjay was unavailable for comment. On asking co-accused Vijay why Supriya had an filed a FIR against them, he feigned ignorance. "She knows better why she registered the FIR," he said.
