What do stray dogs and craft or photography have in common? A lot, if the Welfare of Stray Dogs (WSD) is to be believed. Starting this weekend, the 32-year-old organisation is back with their summer workshops to raise awareness on the issue of stray dogs. "What we want to do is create an interest around the issue but combine it with some other skill that can connect with street dogs," says CEO Abodh Aras. So, for instance, there's a Spin a Tale workshop, in which children's author Bijal Vachharajani will narrate interesting stories about street dogs. Or The Fun with Paints session, meanwhile, invites children to draw and paint pictures of furry superheroes on the street, in a fun and creative way; the session is organised by Art for Akanksha.

"There's some new stuff too, particularly the craft workshop and a vegetarian cooking session," he adds. The Colourful Craft workshop by the Lakshya Art Foundation will show kids how to make colourful and glittery doggie gift bags; it is divided into two sessions - for five to 10-year-olds, and 11 to15-year-olds. Mumbai based photographer Parizad D will teach kids how to photograph animals on the street, Akanksha Arora of pet bakery Barker's Dozen will conduct a hands-on session about making healthy vegetarian treats for dogs, and volunteer Sonya Shastri will conduct a workshop on making origami animals. Aras himself is conducting a stray walk around town, Straying Around (free) hoping to introduce children to some adorable street dogs. "We want to make things educative and fun," he says.

Workshops, to be held at a volunteer's house, are limited to 20 seats so book in advance.
