Media reports of his demise spread panic in victim's family
If the authorities needed any more reasons to put the brakes on blueline buses in the Capital, here's another one. On Wednesday, a cyclist in Najafgarh area of southwest Delhi was saved from becoming another casualty of the 'killer' buses by sheer luck. 
A blueline (Route Number- 539, Mehrauli to Nangloi) lost balance and hit the victim from behind. The incident was reported at noon. The cyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. The victim was later identified as Sunder, 19. Incidentally, some news channels had reported that the cyclist was killed in the incident.
"These bluelines must be banned. I don't know why the government is prepared to gamble with the life of common people. When I heard about the accident I immediately rushed to the spot and then I went to the hospital to look for my son.
But meanwhile I received calls from a relative about Breaking News on a channel that a cyclist had been killed in the mishap. I then told them that my son is alive and out of danger. The wrong news triggered panic in my family and among my relatives," said Pawan Kumar, father of the victim.
Cops have arrested the driver and a case has been registered against him. "We received information about the accident and we sent the injured to the hospital. Fortunately the cyclist didn't receive any severe injuries. He is said to be out of danger. The accused driver was identified as Surender Kumar. We have lodged an FIR under section 279 and 337 of IPC at the Najafgarh police station," said a police officer.
