Cops on the lookout: With the help of a professional artist, Crime Branch has prepared a fresh colour sketch of one of the alleged assailants, sporting a white cap and a check shirt, who killed Dr Narendra Dabholkar on Tuesday. Sources say the illustration is an 85 per cent match with the description of one of the accused provided by witnesses

Dabholkar was shot in the head twice by the two gunmen on Omkareshwar Bridge around 7.20 am on Tuesday when he was on his morning walk.

Meanwhile, assistant commissioner of police (crime) Rajendra Bhamre, who is heading the investigating team, said that Dabholkar had come to Pune at about 1.30 am that day and gone to the flat in Shaniwar Peth, owned by Sadhana trust.

“CCTV footage shows the assailants loitering on the bridge since 6 am, and they started following Dabholkar around when he arrived for his walk,” said Bhamre.

He confirmed that the sketch was an 85% match with the depiction provided by the main witnesses, three other onlookers and the images from the CCTV footage culled from surrounding areas. “We have shown the sketch at petrol pumps across the city, as it is possible that the killers halted somewhere to get fuel,” he said.

Two people quizzed
In the meantime, two persons held in Ahmednagar are being questioned in this connection. Crime branch sources confirmed the detention, but ruled out their involvement in the crime. They were nabbed by a patrolling team in Kotwali police station area on Wednesday night. It was later confirmed that they had stolen a Hero Splendor bike.
