Bachata, which means party is a style of dance that originated in the Dominican Republic. It is practiced widely all across the world but with slight variations. The early slow style from the late 50s included close dances such as Bolero, which were also romantic in nature.
West Coast Swing dancing started in the US with a dance originally known as the Lindy Hop. This dance originated from Charleston and was perfected by African-American dancers in Harlem, New York, in the late 1920s.West Coast Swing (WCS) is a partner dance with roots in Lindy Hop. WCS evolved as a smoother, bluesier version of Lindy Hop that adopts to the music and movement trends of each decade.
The dance form is still evolving. Today, it is not similar to its ancestor, the Savoy Style Lindy, at all. The dance form doesn't need to have a fixed dress style though trendy-casual outfits are accepted on the dancefloor. Blues music, the original music used for West Coast Swing is the common denominator.
