A series of emails leaked on Friday night revealed that former England skipper David Beckham used charity work as part of a desperate campaign to win a knighthood.

According to a report in The Sun, the 41-year-old Beckham, who currently holds an OBE, branded the honours committee “unappreciative c***s” and dismissed lower awards, ranting: “Unless it's a knighthood, f*** off.”

According to a number of European media reports, Beckham had demanded a £6685 payment from UNICEF and a business class flight despite his sponsors splashing out on a private jet. The leaked messages between Beckham and his closest aides could shatter the UNICEF ambassador's reputation.

Neither Beckham's representatives nor himself were available for comment.
