A day after a minor girl, who was working as a domestic help, lodged a complaint through Child Line that she was allegedly beaten up by personnel of the Kothrud police station after being taken there on suspicion of theft, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Makarand Ranade has ordered an inquiry and asked that an officer of police inspector level investigate the matter.

A lawyer, who is a resident of Kothrud, had lodged a complaint about gold ornaments being stolen from her house and suspected that the girl, who worked at her residence, might have committed the theft.u00a0

Anuradha Sahastrbuddhe of Child Line said that the girl approached them on Saturday, alleging that two police constables, including a woman, beat her up and later forced to sign a statement confessing that she had stolen the ornaments.
“We then approached DCP Makarand Ranade and requested him to initiate action against the constables who had done this act, “said Sahastrbuddhe.

She said that the Child Line has also demanded that a case should be registered against the lawyer, who had kept the girl for work despite knowing that she was a minor.

When contacted, Ranade said, “We have initiated an inquiry into the case and Police Inspector S B Navale of the Kothrud police station will investigate the case and send the report to me.” u00a0u00a0
