It will be now called the Indian Maharaja; MTDC to improve short circuit

The Deccan Odyssey, the luxury train initially set-up by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) in collaboration with the Indian Railways, to showcase the state and aimed at foreign tourists has been re-packaged. The train has been re-christened the 'Indian Maharaja Deccan Odyssey and will now be plying on a different circuit from Mumbai to Delhi and from Delhi to Mumbai.u00a0

The train is not plying on any circuit currently as an MTDC spokesperson said, "The Deccan Odyssey normally does not run in the monsoon. This time is used for the maintenance of the train."

MTDC did say though that the Deccan Odyssey would run as the Indian Maharaja Deccan Odyssey from November 2009 on an "experimental basis." The spokesman said, "We have not discontinued the Deccan Odyssey. In fact, this train has been repackaged as Indian Maharaja u2013 Deccan Odyssey. On some weeks it will do a different circuit Mumbai to Delhi and Delhi to Mumbai as the Indian Maharaja and on some other weeks we will do the Deccan route too. The international market is a little thin right now, so we are trying this initiative."u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0

In 2003, the then MTDC MD Ashish Kumar Singh initiated a concept to promote 'luxury tourists' in Maharashtra. A newu00a0 'luxury train' called the Deccan Odyssey started showcasing areas in Maharashtra. The areas covered were the Konkan region, Pune, Nashik and Aurangabad.
