The much-awaited dedicated BEST bus corridors between Worli and Mahalaxmi is one step closer to becoming a reality with the BMC inviting tenders for the same.

As part of the project, the civic body had planned to create hot applied thermoplastic roads with glass beads, cautionary boards and reflective road studs on Dr E Moses Road, Dr A B Road, Lala Lajpatrai Marg (Haji Ali) and Keshavrao Khade Marg in G-south (Worli, Mahalaxmi).

The estimated cost of the project is Rs 32.68 lakh and it is expected to be ready within four months of the work order being issued to the contractor.

If everything goes according to plan, BEST buses will have dedicated corridors on these roads. The move will help provide relief to hundreds of commuters during peak hour.

Chief engineer (roads and traffic), Sanjay Darade said, "BEST and traffic police had told us to create separate lanes on these four roads for buses. This will definitely reduce travel time for BEST commuters."

A senior official from BEST said, "Last year, we had conducted a pilot study between NSCI and Haji Ali for the dedicated bus lane project. The study has shown encouraging results."
