Noida: A Delhi-based gym operator has alleged that he was shot at without any provocation by two police personnel in Greater Noida last night. According to the statement given by Jai Prakash, whose arm had to be amputated as a result of bullet wounds sustained in the alleged incident, the accused policemen were drunk when they opened fire on him.

The victim, a resident of Kondli in Delhi, said that the incident took place as he was returning from the birthday party of one Sunil Khari in Greater Noida. Prakash said that he was being driven home by Sunil's driver, Satish, when two policemen intercepted their car and asked them where they were going.

But, the victim claimed, as they were responding to their queries, both policemen suddenly fired at them. While a bullet hit Jai Prakash, the driver, too, sustained injuries in the firing. The duo was admitted to a private hospital in Noida for treatment.

Police, meanwhile, claimed that security guards of a nearby colony, too, had opened fire at Prakash and Satish thinking them to be thieves. The matter is now under investigation and a ballistic report is being sought to ascertain as to whose bullet had hit Prakash, police said.

On the other hand, the victim's brother, Sonu, has alleged that the incident was an attempt to murder Prakash in which Sunil Khari was involved. He claimed that Sunil Khari knew the policemen and had hatched a plan for Prakash's murder.

Prakash's family members have registered a complaint against the two policemen who, according to SSP Preetinder Singh, have been sent to police lines even as an inquiry was ordered into the case.
