1.63 crore cases of liquor in 10 months, and 1 crore mobiles in a year got sold

Believe it or not, Delhiites gulped over 1.63 crore cases of liquor in the last 10 months. A state government report revealed around 1.63 crore cases of Indian Made Foreign Liquor, country liquor and beer were consumed by the city residents from March to December.

The startling figure is among various other revelations of the annual report released by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday. The report says the city has nearly four crore mobiles, more than one crore mobile connections were added during 2010-11, third highest per capita income in the country, and the Capital saw an upward trend in infant mortality in the year 2010-2011. The report was prepared by Directorate of Economics and Statistics.

Good going
The per capita income of Delhiites increased to Rs 1.16 lakh in 2009-10, which is the third highest in the country. The national per capital income for 2009-10 has been estimated at Rs 33,731. The per capita income in Delhi increased by Rs 13,446 over the per capita income in 2008-09.

Dikshit said the literacy rate was recorded at 86.34 per cent during 2010-11. New Delhi District has the highest rate of literacy with 89.38 per cent whereas the lowest was recorded in North-East. Literacy rate among men is 92.22 per cent while it was recorded at 80.99 per cent for women.u00a0

Smooth ride
Around 5 lakh vehicles were registered during 2010-11. According to some other statistics, the total number of electricity consumers is 4,047,195. The per capita consumption in Delhi is 50 gallons per day with 1,480,441 metered and 314,774 unmetered connections.u00a0

The number of infants dying has increased to 22.47 in 2010 compared to 18.96 in 2009 in the national Capital. Also, according to the data, Delhi's sex ratio has been estimated at 866 against the national average of 940. Call it recession or a general trend, a whopping Rs 6.40 lakh crore was deposited in banks in the city by people in 2010-11, which is an increase of 13 per cent compared to 2009-10.
