The worker would also serve as the deceased’s domestic help, and lived at his employer’s house. The incident happened at around 1 pm on Tuesday at the victim’s house in Shanti Nagar, Dongri, Dahisar (E).

On Monday, the deceased, identified as Joginder Chauhan (42) had withdrawn Rs 60,000 from his bank account for his daughter’s marriage in Uttar Pradesh.

According to the police, the accused, Brijesh Singh alias Sardar saw the cash in his employer’s hand and tried to persuade Chauhan to give him the money under the pretext of funding his children’s education.

Chauhan refused to give him the money, knowing that it would probably be spent on alcohol and drugs.

Crime of rage
In a fit of rage, Singh first strangulated him and finally slit his throat with a knife while he was unconscious.

After the murder, Singh dragged Chauhan’s body outside and dumped it in the adjoining lane.

He also cleaned the bloodstains in the room to avoid suspicion.

The next morning, when locals discovered the body, Singh misguided people, saying that Chauhan had passed out due to alcohol consumption.
However, locals noticed traces of blood around the body and informed the police.

The police initially detained Singh for enquiry during which he broke down and confessed. A knife and some cash were later recovered from Singh.

Chauhan owned a factory and had been staying at Shanti Nagar in Dongri for the last 12 years.

Both Chauhan and Singh hailed from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh.

“Singh has been arrested under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and will be produced at court on Wednesday,” said Pravin Patil, deputy commissioner of police (Zone XII). u00a0
