However, St Mary’s weren’t done yet, and in the 39th minute, Denzel scored the winner.u00a0St Mary’s were relegated to Division II in 2009 but their coach Balmukund Tiwary hopes they will be able to fight their way back into the top division by the end of this season.

“Last year we came close to getting promoted but finished third in Div II. But if we play the way we are doing right now, I feel we will be able to break into the Elite Division. Denzel is a very skillful player and he was the player of the day for us,” said Tiwari.

It is his first year in the U-16 side, but Denzel is confident that the team is good and they can do well.u00a0“Our school has good players but they just don’t concentrate on playing football. We have been in Div II for some years now.u00a0“But this time the boys want to win the title and get the team to where they belong — the Elite Division,” said Denzel.

He sought admission to St Mary’s from St Peter’s (Mazgaon) four years ago to improve his footballing skills and that seems to be paying dividends.

“I switched to Mary’s so that I could play football. From being just a team member at Peter’s to being the main striker of this team gives me a lot of pride.u00a0“I feel that being skillful pays more than being tall or well-built,” said the Neymar fan.
