A 27-year-old domestic help, who was employed at noted Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishan's residence, allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the actor's 14th storey flat at the Garden Estates building in Goregaon (West) yesterday.

The actor, who is presently in Patna, came to know of the incident at 7 pm, by a phone call from his wife. The maid, who has been identified as Ruby, had been appointed by the Kishan family two months back.

Sources revealed that Ruby, who hailed from Mathura, was a victim of domestic abuse at her in-law's place.

Sagar, a distant relative, who happened to be a spot boy for one of the Kishan's projects, arranged for Ruby to work as a maid for the actor's family.

Ramesh Kadam, senior police inspector at Bangur Nagar police station, said that Ruby's body had been found within the building premises.

At the time of Ruby's fatal plunge; two other servants were present at the residence, along with Kishan's wife. Ruby allegedly locked the bathroom door from inside, and then jumped, oblivious to the other residents.

Bystanders who were at the ground floor of the building rushed up to intimate Kishan's wife.

Ruby was reportedly suffering from severe bouts of depression, and was in a state of constant anxiety over familial troubles.

A month back, she even ran away from Kishan's house, and returned days later, claiming that she had spent the sabbatical at Juhu.

Cops are now attempting to locate Sagar, who is reportedly out of station, for interrogations.

"We have sent the woman's body for post mortem.

She locked the bathroom door so that others could not prevent her from committing the fatal act. Moreover, she had been suffering from severe depression. Both these factors indicate that she committed suicide," said Kadam.

Additional Commissioner Ramrao Pawar said, "Although it appears to be a case of suicide, we are conducting investigations to confirm the same. Sagar will be questioned further about Ruby's background."
