Officials indicate foreign hand in Delhi explosion, as technology used has left investigators baffled

A day after a car belonging to the Israeli embassy burst into flames following a blast in the capital, officials are yet to make any headway in the investigations. Delhi police are still searching for any clues that could lead them to find the perpetrators of the act that injured four people, including the wife of an Israeli diplomat.

It's Official: Home Minister P Chidambaram said that wife of the Israeli
official was the target.

According to investigations, the police believe that the perpetrators were very intelligent and had carried out a recce of the area before committing the act.

"It appears as if a recce was carried out as they knew the timings of the embassy official's visit to the school," said a source. However, police are yet to make any breakthrough as the CCTV footage from the Israeli embassy, Prime Minister's residence did not provide any vital clues.

Five persons owning red coloured motorcycles were detained but were let off later while another person who was caught on CCTV in front of the Israeli embassy appeared before investigators.

Investigators also said that the technology used in the bomb indicated a foreign hand. According to analysis, the bomb was the size of a tiffin box and the use of RDX has also been ruled out.

"It is for the first time that such a bomb was used in a terror attack in India. No timer or detonator was found. The blast was probably carried out with the help of a remote control or a palm top," said an official.

Meanwhile, records of all Iranians living in Delhi are being scanned and security in the area of Pahargunj and
Karol Bagh has been increased.

A team of officials from Mossad -- the secret service agency from Israel -- has also reached Delhi to help in the investigations.

'Terror attack'
Earlier in the day, Home Minister P Chidambaram confirmed the blast was a terror attack. "It is quite clear that a very well-trained person committed this act. There are reasons to believe that the Israeli diplomat's wife was the target. Teams have been deployed to trace the motorcycle rider. I am not pointing a finger at any particular organisation," said Chidambaram.

Diplomat's wife stable
The Israeli diplomat's wife wounded in a car bomb attack in New Delhi is in stable condition following surgery to remove shrapnel. Tal Yehoshua-Koren, the wife of an Israeli Defense Ministry representative to India, reportedly woke for theu00a0first time yesterday.
