Director Amjad Khan to make a film on Malala Yousafzai
Amjad Khan was once issued a fatwa thanks to his film Le Gaya Saddam. Seems like the filmmaker is in no hurry to take a break
His next offering will be a biopic on Pakistani teenage education activist Malala Yousafzai, who came under global spotlight after the Taliban attacked her in October.
As of now, the director is casting actors and refuses to reveal the name of the child actor who will portray the 15-year-old. “It’s not the right time because so many things are happening at once. We have shortlisted a few names. And I’m sure it will be a courageous effort that will help shed some light on the age old issues facing South Asia,” says Amjad.
Explaining why he chose to base his film on the teenage sensation, the filmmaker says, “As of today, Malala is the name of a revolution not only in her own country but around the world.
She proved that age has nothing to do with courage. I’m writing this film as a tribute to this young girl and not only she but also for the million others who are inspired by her act,” Amjad signs off. The film will start shortly and will be shot in Iran, Bhuj and other parts of India.
Who’s that girl?
Malala Yousafzai: Winner of Pakistan’s first National Youth Peace Prize, Malala is a school student who is known for her education and women’s rights activism. On October 9, she was shot in the head and neck by Talibani gunmen while returning home from school but she survived.
